OCG Choir Auditions

Founded by thirty voices -most of them from Granada-, OCG Choir was publicly presented on June 2004 on the occasion of a concert in which, along with the OCG and the conductors Josep Pons and Mireia Barrera, performed a repertoire of works by Juan Alfonso García, Benjamin Britten and Johann S. Bach.

Since then, OCG Choir has interpreted some of the greatest choral repertoire works, such as Requiem by Fauré, Symphony n.2 Lobgesang by Mendelssohn, Coronation mass and Requiem by  Mozart, works by Tallis y Vaughan Williams, The Messiah by Haendel during OCG Christmas Concerts, that are held every year, Bach’s St. John’s passion, conducted by Harry Christophers, Christ on the mount of olives, conducted by Tuomas Ollila–Hannikaunen, The childhood of Christ by Hector Berlioz, conducted by Pablo González, etc.

Among its many performances, are remarkable those of the opening concert on 2007 edition of the International Granada Dance and Music Festival, with the opera production  ll Califfo di Bagdad by Manuel García, under the conduction of Christophe Rousset along with the opera Les Talens Lyriques, a production also interpreted by the Choir in a concert held in Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid), whose recording for Archiv obtained CD Compact Award in 2009 (Recovery of musical and historic patrimony); the performance in Palau de la Música (Barcelona) with the work The seasons by Haydyn, conducted by Salvador Mas, etc.

Along with City of Granada Orchestra, the Choir participates in a large number of concerts held every season, among which we consider worth mentioning the concert in memory of Federico García Lorca with works by Rautavara, J. A. García, and F. Vila with the tenor LLuís Vilamajó, the German Requiem by Brahms with Salvador Mas; and the Misa de la Coronación with OCG’s principal conductor Andrea Marcon. In addition, OCG Choir is a regular guest in the International Granada Dance and Music Festival, where it has participated in latter editions with productions such as Mahler’s Second Symphony along with the Choir and Orchestra of Schleswig-Holstein Festival and Christoph Eschenbach; Orff’s Carmina Burana, with an impressive staging of La Fura dels Baus under the conduction of Manuel Herández Silva; and, in 2015 edition, with a concert in St Jerome Monastery with Vivaldi’s Gloria y Magnificat, this time conducted by Lluìs Vilamajó.

Among its next performances, are remarkable those of the season opening concert that OCG gives every year in Granada’s Plaza de Toros in which this time the Choir will count with the presence of soprano Mariola Cantarero and Pablo Heras-Casado as conductor; The Messiah and two programmes in which Poetry and Music will combine, one of them dedicated to Lorca and the other to Shakespeare, as a part of 2015/2016 OCG’s schedule.

Daniel Maestre has been OCG’s Choir conductor between 2006 and 2012, substituting to its first conductress Mireia Barrera. Lluis Vilamajó, who currently is Principal Guest Conductor, has been the conductor from 2013 to 2015; and Héctor Elilel Márquez will take the conducting role from 2015/2106 season on forward.
